Why Choose Selkirk Tangiers Heli Skiing

At Selkirk Tangiers Heli Skiing, our mission is to provide iconic mountain adventures by soaring above expectations.

A fourth generation Swiss Mountain Guide, STHS founder Peter Schlunegger introduced helicopter skiing to the Revelstoke area and the Selkirk Mountains in 1978. The tradition of guiding in the Selkirk Mountains runs deep. In 1899, Karl Schlunegger, the great-grandfather of Peter, became one of the first guides to work from the historic Glacier House lodge in Rogers Pass, in what would become Glacier National Park.

The Hillcrest Hotel serves as our main base, where our guests stay and enjoy the finer qualities of life with superb dining and accommodations. STHS moved into the hotel once construction was completed in 1999 and the lodge continues to be an exceptional facility for our operation – here you will find a well-stocked retail store, boot room, and ski shop. The office for our reservation staff is located on the main floor in the newly renovated lobby. We take pride in making you feel at home in a casual setting that allows guests to relax throughout their vacation with us.

Though our staff have diverse backgrounds, passion for the snow, mountains, and exceptional customer service bring them all together.  Selkirk Tangiers promotes and fosters a friendly working environment where staff work together to create an unforgettable guest experience.

The snowfall in Revelstoke, BC, is the stuff of legends. Home to Canada’s snowiest winter, where 82 feet of powder fell on nearby Mt. Copeland, it’s often referred to as ‘Revelstuck’. Not just for the highway closures, an occasional occurrence during heavy winter storms, but also for the town’s reputation for the powder skiing which attracts – and retains – visitors from all over the world.

In Revelstoke, snow means powder with an average of 40 to 60 feet (12 to 18 metres) of snowfall annually in our tenure. Snow starts falling in September, serving up early season turns in December and fresh powder until April.

Average temperatures at tree line are -7°C (20°F) delivering light, dry snow, and our geographical location in BC’s interior means our tenure develops a snowpack that is perfectly balanced between denser coastal snow, and lower-density continental snow found in the Rockies. This contributes to a generally stable and supportive snowpack, meaning we can ski a wide variety of terrain all winter long.
